The infection occurs in many animals, including wild raccoons (Procyonlotor), that may play role disseminating cysts into environment and transmitting it to humans domestic animals. Bile feces samples collected from each 34 test animals were used for study. specific antigen detected rapid immunochromatographic using stool bile samples. overall prevalence 38.2% (13/34, 95% CI, 21.0-55.4%). Positive results obtained 8 23.5% (95% 8.5-38.6%) 13 In all stool-positive raccoons, infestation confirmed examination. five positive result only sample. detection GSA65 studied confirms that, similarly humans, also course can be localized both intestine ducts.

Clinical coccidiosis in raccoons (Procyon lotor).
Clinical coccidiosis was diagnosed in wild-caught and captive raccoons. Eimeria procyonis-like oocysts were seen in 15 of 15 captive raccoons. In 6 of 6 juvenile wild-caught raccoons examined at necropsy, endogenous coccidian stages were seen in the small intestine. Two types of schizonts (large and small) were identified. Large schizonts were up to 110 microm long, contained 10-microm-long mer...

Raccoon (Procyon lotor) carcasses (n=118) were collected from July through December 2007 throughout eastern Tennessee. Necropsies were performed, and Baylisascaris procyonis was collected from the gastrointestinal tract of infected carcasses. Prevalence rates were determined for the overall sample population, males and females, and adults and juveniles. The sample population had a B. procyonis ...
متن کاملNeuroaxonal dystrophy in raccoons (Procyon lotor) from Iowa.
During a 12-month period (1998-1999), microscopic evidence of neuroaxonal dystrophy (NAD) in medullae oblongata of raccoons (Procyon lotor) was observed in 17/39 (47% prevalence in adults) from Iowa, USA. Three of the animals were kits (<3 months), 26 were between 1 and 2 years, and 10 were over 7 years. Lesions were not seen in the medullae of the 3 kits. In young adults, the lesions were mild...
متن کاملExperimental infection of raccoons (Procyon lotor) with West Nile virus.
To characterize the responses of raccoons to West Nile virus (WNV) infection, we subcutaneously exposed them to WNV. Moderately high viremia titers (≤ 10(4.6) plaque forming units [PFU]/mL of serum) were noted in select individuals; however, peak viremia titers were variable and viremia was detectable in some individuals as late as 10 days post-inoculation (DPI). In addition, fecal shedding was...
متن کاملSusceptibility of raccoons (Procyon lotor) to infection with Mycobacterium bovis.
Tuberculosis due to Mycobacterium bovis infection is endemic in white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) in the northeastern portion of the lower Michigan peninsula (USA). Various wild carnivores and omnivores, including raccoons (Procyon lotor), are infected with M. bovis within the endemic area. To investigate the pathogenesis of tuberculosis in raccoons and the likelihood of M. bovis trans...
